Cognitive-Behavior Therapy for Bipolar Disorder
There is considerable evidence to support
a biological view of bipolar disorder. While In mild cases,
CBT alone may be sufficient, with moderate to severe bipolar
conditions, medication is widely considered the first line
of treatment. In these cases, evidence supports CBT as an
effective adjunct to pharmacotherapy. CBT can help in many
ways: acceptance and symptom awareness, identifying early
warning signs to prevent flare ups, help manage residual symptoms
not addressed through medication, lifestyle coaching, goal
setting, self esteem, reduce blow to self esteem, facilitate
family education and support.
